Hey everyone,
DSL recently came to my home town. (YAY!) and i've got everything going fine. I have 2 PC's behind a Linksys Router sharing the internet. However, the only problem I am having, is since setting everythin up this way, my AVG v6.0 (free) can never find an automatic connection to the internet when trying to update. Ive tried Uninstalling and reinstalling, no software firewall etc. So about the only thing I can think of is the the Router must be blocking AVG's update process. So I was wondering if anyone knew if AVG uses a specific port to connect? Or if anyone has a solution to the problem at all.

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

I think they are having a problem the last couple of days , having the same problem . You can manually download the updates and put it in the update folder for avg which will detect it when you open the program . Hopefully they will fix the problem soon .

viper may be correct. I just tried to initiate an update thru the AVG control panel and it failed. It appears that mine hasn't updated since 3am on Mar 1st.

Dear Chris,

Please check your AVG folder (default at C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6) for a file named URL.INI with following content :-

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1

-Change it to :

[SERVER_NAME]
1=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe
Actual URL=1

-I have tested this and it worked. I think the free.grisoft.cz server has a problem accepting DSL connection (maybe just for a while). Don't forget to backup the URL.INI file first!

Good luck!

I've been having this problem for weeks with dialup too (not just DSL) and have been doing manual downloads. I just applied the above solution and bingo! it connected right away. Thanks so much for the tip. (And for Google too, of course.)
