We have a Nashuatec D420 network printer with a IP address of
195.195.195.50. However, it became necesarry to switch to the 192.168.1.x
range after installing broadband. The DHCP server allocates addresses in
the range 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.253. We have two PCs running Windows XP
Home Edition and one using Windows 2000 Pro.The printer doesn't seem to provide the option to change the IP address via
it's control panel. I obtained the printer's MAC address and tried to
allocate 192.168.1.50 using arp, without success. The printer cannot be
pinged.Could you please give some advice as how to change the printer's IP address with Windows XP Home or 2000?

The print server function of that printer is most likely an optional component. Check to see if you can get the make/model of the print server device where the Cat5 connects. Then google it to find the documentation for the print server.

I know nothing about that particular printer, but some other network print devices (HP's jetdirect stuff, e.g.) require you to telnet to the device to change its settings. This would require you to connect a computer, via a hub or crossover cable, to the printer. Manually set the computer's IP address such that it can communicate with the printer. Then, telnet to the printer.
Like I said, I don't know if this is true for your particular device. If you can't change the network settings from the front panel, it's a reasonable assumption though. But yeah, see if you can find the manual :)

If all else fails you can contact the manufacturer and ask them how to do it.
