ARP entries and Routing protocol

May 19, 2010 at 13:33:39
Specs: Cisco 3750
Can someone please post the command to look up current routing protocol on a cisco 3750 and ARP entries on same kinda switch.

I tried these;

sh arp

sh IP protocols

in en mode.

I am just not convinced on the output, the ARP entries are like 245 and I only show 1 routing protocol EIGRP 300. Is this typical on this kind of switches?

Thanks in advance.

That is a Layer 2 switch so yes, it looks normal. Layer 2 devices will not have much in the way of routing protocals because they do not have any routing tables to update just ARP.

You have a kind'a high amount of ARP entries but that could depend on the number of times computers have been moved around the office or disconnected and reconnected.

This is a layer 3 switch actually, would that make a difference?

Yes it makes a big difference because IP works at layer 3. With a layer 3 switch you can connect different networks. As for the routing protocols, Cisco says they support them but I have never used them because they are used in WANs and I am a LAN guy. Here is some more information...
