Hello,
I have a question regarding AOL for broadband and Netgear WGR614v4 wireless routers. My ISP is Comcast for the broadband.
My wife likes to play online games thru AOL at pogo.com. After updating numerous drivers, java, direct x, and a few other things, I came to find out that the problem was with the wireless router and aol. The games either freeze aol up, or kick her out of them. I have a laptop with a 3.04 mhz p4 cpu and 1024 mb's of RAM running Windows XP Pro SP2 also.
When I connect with it at various hotels and stuff, I have no problem with AOL locking up or games kicking her out. Only at home. I've heard that Linksys routers are the only ones compatible with AOL and the screwy way it does things. Personally, I think it should be illegal to do some of the things that piece of you know what software does. Most of what you hear about AOL and their software is very true.
Is there any way you know of to make the netgear router compatible with AOL, or should I go with a Linksys. I've changed the MTU's over and over again with no help. I'm thinking about trying a crossover cable, but doubt that that will help. WEP and all the other settings are fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

CHanging to crossover won't do any good.
Have you tried looking for anything about port forwarding and if it's required? AIM for example works better if port 5190 is forwarded to the client machine using it.
Also have you looked at netgear's site for a firmware upgrade on the router you're using?
