Hi,
I have broadband internet through a huawei MT800 modem. This is connected to a 5 port hub. Two computers are connected to the hub. Now, i am facing this problem. A particular s/w needs a port to be forwarded to it. inspite of setting up the port forwarding rule to allow that particular port, my software is unable to connect to that port. I have a feeling it is due to the hub.

I would disagree. With a hub ALL ports are open.
Being so there is no reason to forward a port. My suggestion would be to do a bit of followup with your software. Ask why you need to engage port for forwarding? [doesn't really make sense software on a pc needs to tell itself that what is coming to it is forwarded - that is handled by the last router before your pc is where you would setup forwarding]
Otherwise you will have to talk to your ISP because they may be blocking the port you want forwarded.
Give a person a fish you feed them for a day. Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
