Subject: Adequate Network Security?
OS: SBS 2003
CPU/Ram: 2.6GHz/3GB
Model/Manufacturer: HP
Comment:
Hi everyone, I am running a home network and am concerned that my network security is not adequate. I have a server running SBS 2003 and several workstations XP Pro Sp2 or Vista Business. My main concern is the server. I am hosting a website from this server however I have only one NIC, because of this SBS cannot install a firewall as it works with two NIC's . Therefore I rely on my router which has a basic built in firewall capacity for protection. Is this sufficient? Or should I get another NIC or a hardware firewall or both?

As long as you don't run DMZ or forward too many ports on your router it should be safe.

You can test your firewall by doing a quick port scan online at: Shields Up courtesy of www.grc.com. Do an extensive test and this will let you know if you have any open ports that respond to outside queries.

This will at least let you know what's open and what isn't so you can take steps to better secure your server....should it require it.
