Hello All-
I have a relatively small network(50 users) with about 10-15 printers that are connected to PC's that act like Print Servers. I have (1) Tektronix Phaser 850 Color printer that is connected directly to the network and has it's own IP address. The problem is, I can't see or find this printer in the active directory. The printer works fine, I can get to it thru its IP address on my network, but I can't install it on a few w98 machines that I have b/c they don't see it on the network. If I install the printer on any computer and turn sharing on, I have no problem getting to it, but I don't want to have to use any other computers as print servers. I want to connect directly to the Phaser, but can't because it doesn't show up in Active Directory or in Net. Neighborhood. Who knows how to do this??? THANKS!!!

If you just have it as a printer with an IP via Jet Direct or something similar, it won't show up in AD. It will only show up in AD if a server knows about it. Go to your domain controller and add that printer as a local printer (yes local even though it's on the network). Select to add a port during the printer install and add a TCP/IP port. Follow the wizard to install the printer and enter in the IP address. This will make the server the print server that users will connect to to access the printer. You said you don't want to use another computer as a print server but without it, it's not going to show in AD. That printer has no idea how to talk to AD so unless you have a server publishing the printer in AD, it's just not going to show up.
