I need some help connecting clients to our server. I have seen many topics about this but none with the problems I am having. We run windows 2003 with dns and dhcp. It also has TS and AD. I am trying to add an xp machine to the domain and getting an error something like domain controller can not be contacted. we can ping the client from the server and ping the ip address of the server from the client but not the server FQDN. I have set the client DNS server to the address of the windows server and the change shows up with an ipconfig /all. However we still get an ip from the router connecting server and client and it shows the dhcp server address to be the address of the router. I could not find an option on the client to change the dhcp address. maybe there is another solution I am kind of new at this so you will have to bear with me.
You should not be giving out ip via the router but should be doing it via the server. You enable dhcp on the server and authorize it. You disable dhcp on the router.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
