I came across a situation where my friend needed more ethernet ports over his ISP-provided 4 ports modem/router for his ever-expanding network.

So I bought this ...
D-Link DES-1105 5-Port 10/100 Desktop Switch

... and successfully hooked it up with no fuss in only a minute. The installation was unbelievably easy. It didn't require any user configuration. I tested everything. There were no degradation in the workstation simultaneous access to the internet. Does anyone ever have had any problem with it?

BTW this 5-ports switch cost only $16.99 - 3 bucks less than the $19.99 Cat 5 UTP Network Splitter that the friend thought of buying in the first place. I don't believe this Y-spliter will work with simultaneous connections that can cause instant network collision with ripple-like effects.
