I want to be able to have 3 loptops working on the internet at the same time.
They are right next to each other and all 3 have Windows Vista.

I have done this successfully with an ad hoc local network
which I set up through the set up internet connection in windows
by choosing
"set up a wireless ad hoc (computere to computer) network" option.
I did this with the laptop that is connected to the internet (fixed IP address).

It worked great a number of times, but not anymore for some reason.
When you set it up
it usually asks you to "allow sharing of internet connectiuon" before finishing.
Now this window does not show anymore.
Windows help says that ICS will be disabled if you did not log off the wireless
network
before logging off the computer or before creating a new one.

But I deleted all of them and restarted and still the same problem.
Is there some other location where one can force the wireless ad hoc network
to allow internet sharing?

I recently installed an update of messenger, and windows installed one of its
automatic updates as well,
which may have changed some setting.

You know, you could buy a wireless capable SOHO router for about $40 USD. My recommendation would be to buy one and wireless network by using it instead of trying to build an ad hoc wireless network.

We are in Brazil right now for a month where they make it hard for you to use a router without paying extra. I also don`t want to buy one for just one month. Maybe someone else understands the issue.

For Some reason, ICS will only activate when being installed.

So go to Control Panel
Software
Tab Turn Windows Features on and off
UNCHECK the feature IIS (Internet Information
Services
Click OK

Windows will now uninstall IIS (ICS is a feature of IIS)
When uninstalled, reboot.

Go to Turn Windows Features on and off, and Check the box
in front of IIS, To make sure the right components are to be
installed, click on Details and assure that IIS is checked
Click ok - ok an d Windows will re-install ICS.
Reboot
Now you can
share your internet connection with an Ad Hoc Network

Grtz,

Taratatza
