I have a belkin wireless router which my other laptop (a HP) has no problem finding and holding a connection. My Acer Aspire 3000 will find and connect to the router bu then after an hour I will not be able to load any webpages. It still says I am connected to the network. Trying to repair the connection doesn't work. In fact, it initially says little/no connectivity but then will change to connected with a good or excellent signal, although I still cannot load any webpages. restrting the computer does not work. i must reset the router and restart the computer to get a new connection which will last for an hour and then seems to malfunction. Any advice.

there are a couple of networking patches for xp that address this. one is for xp dropping mapped drives and the other is a patch for the comp browser service stoping. I've posted them both in the past, do a search for past posts and install them

DS, I tried to find your past post but only found similar references that you had "posted them in the past". I will check microsofts website for the patches you describe. If you remember their exact names, that would be most helpful. Thanks.

okay, once again here they are. There are two computer browser patches (KB884020 & KB889320)and a registry import that you can create yourself with the following text:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters]
"autodisconnect"=dword:0000ffff
"enableforcedlogoff"=dword:00000001
"enablesecuritysignature"=dword:00000000
"requiresecuritysignature"=dword:00000000
"NullSessionPipes"=hex(7):43,00,4f,00,4d,00,4e,00,41,00,50,00,00,00,43,00,4f,\
00,4d,00,4e,00,4f,00,44,00,45,00,00,00,53,00,51,00,4c,00,5c,00,51,00,55,00,\
45,00,52,00,59,00,00,00,53,00,50,00,4f,00,4f,00,4c,00,53,00,53,00,00,00,45,\
00,50,00,4d,00,41,00,50,00,50,00,45,00,52,00,00,00,4c,00,4f,00,43,00,41,00,\
54,00,4f,00,52,00,00,00,54,00,72,00,6b,00,57,00,6b,00,73,00,00,00,54,00,72,\
00,6b,00,53,00,76,00,72,00,00,00,00,00
"NullSessionShares"=hex(7):43,00,4f,00,4d,00,43,00,46,00,47,00,00,00,44,00,46,\
00,53,00,24,00,00,00,00,00
"Lmannounce"=dword:00000000
"Size"=dword:00000001
"Guid"=hex:64,c1,d8,56,fa,a0,78,4b,b0,47,05,7b,65,52,80,18
"CachedOpenLimit"=dword:00000000

The registry entry/import resolves the losing of mapped drives/internet connection. the MS KB's are for the computer borwser service bug (although I dont remember specifically what each does as it has been so long since I had to use them but they are safe to use.)
