Hi,
I've just installed RealVNC server on my home PC with the intention of being able to access it remotely. The problem I think I have is I don't know which IP address to target as I have a wireless/wired access point (USR 8054) which I used to connect to my cable modem (Telewest).
The PCs IP is something like 192.168.123.105
and the modem is 80.23.x.xHow would I connect to the VNC server on the PC from another PC on the 'net?
Thanks

www.whatismyip.com to get your ip. You must also forward the appropriate ports to your PC's IP.
And VNC over the internet is not very safe from a security perspective.

Thanks fot the replies. I think my question was more one around NAT. I know the IP of my cable modem but the question was more to do with connecting to the PC with the NAT address ie 192.168.x.x
Shoudl I just target the modem IP and somehow this routes through to the right PC? I have a wireless laptop as well and there must be a way of directing to the correct device.
Also what would you suggest instead of VNC?

You connect to your public ip. Your router must be set to forward the ports as I mentioned before.
RDP is more secure if you have XP Pro on the machine that is to be remotely controlled, although there is are still some security issues with this, too. Or you could setup a VPN connection and tunnel either RDP or VNC through the VPN connection. Finally, you could tunnel VNC through SSH.

Like everyone said here - you need to configure your router to forward the ports to the computer.
That requires you to set the computer(s) with static IP addresses.
This is just an example if your router uses 192.168.1.1
PC1
IP 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1PC2
IP 192.168.1.103
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1You can also set up VNC on different machines to use different ports and then forward the different ports to other computers.
