Access Point vs Wireless Router

I was wondering why an Access Point would be more expensive then a wireless router which is an access point, router, and 4 port switch all in one. They are both Linksys G. I ask because i need to set up an access point at my work for 2 laptops and wasn't sure which i should uses since we have a DHCP server.
Summary: What is the point of buying a Access Point for $80 when you can buy a wireless router for < $70? What am I missing here. What exactly does an access point do? Any help would be greatly appreciated....
