What is the point of buying a Access Point for $80 when you can buy a wireless router for < $70? What am I missing here. What exactly does an access point do?

Wireless router have Access Points + router performance.

What you are missing Eric is supply and demand. Much more demand for the wireless routers than AP's. Especially considering you can modify a wireless router to act like a AP.
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
