One is an access point. The other is a router, a switch, and an access point all in one. A router let's you share an internet connection between multiple PC's. A switch allows for multiple LAN systems to interconnect. An access point allows for wireless clients to connect.
With that said, for wireless you should only buy an access point or router that supports WPA-PSK for security. If you already have a router, you only really need an access point.

i still dont get the access point idea... a wireless router can allow computer to connect to it wirelessly and so can an access point.
I know that a WAN port gives the wireless routers its' internet spreading ability so wat gives the access point its' internet?
Does an access point have a WAN port? Does it have other ports? Or does it only spread waves for other computer to connect to it?
thnx again..

Nothing. It doesn't have Internet capability unless it is plugged into something that does like a router or a switch that is connected to a router.
