Hi,

i'm using a belkin f5d7230-4 belkin router and i need help to use it to connect to my brother's network to use the internet. he is the one with the internet access and my pc doesn't have a wireless card so i need to use the belkin to access his network and transfer the internet connection to my pc. I have had some help that pointed me in the direction of using the router as a "access point", but i still can't get it to work. By the way, please make the directions as simple as possible because i have little knowledge about computer networking.

thanks in advance for the help

A Router routes and is a transmitting device. Access Points are both receive and transmitting devices.

Why not just buy a Wireless Card ?

The wifi part of the router transmits, just for clarification of above statement.

which actually brings up the point of how is he going to use the belkin as a AP if he doesn't have a wireless card.

run a cable from your brothers router to your pc is your only solution.

if by chance you were thinking router to router wirelessly this is not a access point but a bridge and your equipement doesn't qualify for that purpose.

yes, my brother does have a wireless router, but it is too far for me to wire the 2 routers together.

My f5d7230-4 actually has an option to be used as a bridge; so can I configure it to be a bridge and then connect my computer to my belkin via a network cable?

Wireless bridging works with the following models only:

F5D7230-4 54g Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router

The following firmware version must be installed on the AP and the Router for proper
operation:

F5D7230-4: Version 1.01.08 or higher
