Hi,
I got the following situation;one Win2K PC with a 10/100 nic,a Win98 Laptop with a 10/100 nic,en a 10/100 hub,using cat5 cables.
The LAN runs at the 10mbps setting but i want it to be 100mbps.
I know this question is asked a lot,i did read the earlier postings about this subject,but a few questions remain;
To run at 100mbps you need 100full duplex mode which isn't supported by a hub,you need a switch for that... is that a correct statement?
If it isn't correct,what can i do to make the LAN run at the 100mbps speed?
I tried setting it to 100 full duplex mode but then it has no cennection at all...Thanks in advance,
Roy

Your hub and/or NICs may not be autosensing the connection speed. Investigate your hub settings (via browser, telnet, console, etc.) and your NIC settings in the adapter properties and make sure all are set to autosense. If none of the cards are linking at 100, it seems like it might be your hub. A switch will be more efficient and manageable on your network, and the prices are really low these days.

Your must be set to autosensing, and if it is not settable is WILL BE autosensing for a simple non switcht hub. Dont worry about the hub. Be sure to put your PCīs to autosensing this will make sure all equipment will try best te make a 100 mb connection. 2 things can be on hand: 1) Your HUB "backbone" is defect, even a simple hub has one to establish the speeds, exchange your HUB. 2) Cabling: MAKE SURE THE CABLES are correct TWISTED!!! This meens the pin 1,2 and 3,6 must be a TWISTED pair. When your cable has 1,2 and 3,4 and 5,6 and 7,8 as TWISTED pairs only 10 mb will work, 100 wonīt or will be VERY slow connection. So connect cables like 1,2 and 3,6 and 4,5 and 7,8 to be PAIRS, itīs VERY important! Succes
