Just got my network working (D-Link DI-704 router). Both PC's can access the internet, and the XP PC can see and access files on the 98 Laptop, but not vice versa. I don't have any software firewalls on the XP PC, so I can't think of why the Laptop can't see the XP box. I have disabled the firewall on the XP computer and the Laptop doesn't have a firewall. Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

If you are familiar with these items...check that they both have the same network group names and that they are using the same network protocols, etc

On the xp box, under tcp/ip properties...click the advanced button/Wins tab...Is the NETBIOS over tcp/ip enabled?

XP by default enbles its built-in firewall on all networt interfaces. Disable it and have another go.

They have the same workgroup name..but I don't know what you mean by network protocols.

It's set to Default...is that what it should be?

I disabled the firewall already...read my first post.

Were you able to find a resolution you your 98/xp problem? I have the exact same setup and the exact same problem. I've attacked all of the usual suspects listed in the other posts like disabling the firewall, checking my network protocols and configurations, etc. The only thing I have not attempted is enabling the (now) non-supported NetBeui protocol off the WinXP disc.
I too can access the internet off either machine and access all win98 shares from the XP box. Both of my w98 machines can see the XP box in Network Neighborhood, but if you double click on the Xp's icon, it'll just tell me that it is not accessible.
I will gladly accept any and all input on the cause(s) of this and any possible resolutions.
