Hello,
My Win 98 pc is now networked with my new XP pc. Everything is working fine (internet, printers, etc.) except this: From Win 98 I can see the XP computer in the network as well as all shared folders. From the XP computer I even do not see the 98 computer. If I want to copy or move some files, I must do it from the 98 computer. Why can't I see the 98 shared folders in my XP computer?
Thanks.

I had a similar (but reverse) problem. I could not see the XP computer from my 98 one. It was firewall software I had running on the XP computer. The only other thing I can think of is make sure you have sharing turned on for the 98 computer.

Also double check and make sure the Workgroups are the same. And you have that user (win98 pc login) account setup on the xp pc.

^--- it SHOULD be turned on if u can browes from it

from your XP machine, open internet explorer, ya would normaly type '\\win98' to get to ya win98 box? (well..is the win98's name was 'win98')

try replacing the name with the computers IP
ie '\\192.168.0.2'

if that works..
open the file
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
open it with notepad or wordpad or something and add in the IP + comp name at the bottom (there is a lil bit of help at the top of the 'hosts' file)

ummm....im in win2000 atm...ill install xp to my share partition, and make sure that file / folder is the same

Hellow Michel
On the xp go to start, my document, and then on the left hand side look for shared files or shared folders and double click.
You will see them.

Look in the Network properties under the WINS tabs, and enable NetBIOS over TCPIP.
