Name: Michael
I have a D-link 713P connected to an ehternet DSL modem. My desktop (Windows 98) is hardwired to 713P and my laptop (Windows XP Home) is connected to 713P via a wireless PCI card. Both computers receive the internet. I can ping the laptop from the desktop but not the otherway around. I would like some help on how to network the computer together. Thanks for any assistance.

I failed to mention that I have a firewall on the desktop (zonealarm). I turned it off and now I can ping both ways between the two computers. The laptop (XP Home) sees the desktop but it asks for a password. How do I set that passwords between the two computers? Also the desktop (Win 98)does not seem to see the laptop. When I open Metwork Neighborhood there is nothing there. Thanks for any help. Michael

The answer is too long to write out, however you should look at this website and all will be revealed.
It is a virtual BIBLE for SOHO networking.

Go visit: it is worth the time spent.

There are all kinds of reasons why a system might not work. In this case the reason why Win 98 could not see XP Home was because I did not sign in properly. When I first turned the computer on I got a screen that asks for the password to the Network. I did not read the message and het the Esc key. Once I hit enter the Network operated properly. I truned off the Zone Alarm firewall. The other thing that I did was to install NetBUEI onto XP Home. I hope this helps someone else. Thanks all.
