My isp techie told me to get the drivers for my modem - usr 3cp2976.
My win xp pro has drivers but these don't communicate everything like how to handle line noise etc.
I looked everywhere. Of course i looked at the usr website but those drivers will NOT install in my xp without corrupt code.

Well, according to the USR support site, that is an OEM modem. The drivers that they (USR) provide state that they are for the OSes 9x, ME, NT & 2000 - XP is not listed, which might be why you have a problem.
I was going to suggest you go to the website of the company you bought the PC from, but I see the system builder was you.
It might be that XP drivers just don't exist for that modem.
