3COM switch duplex problem

The switch fails to auto-negotiate to full duplex. It is a superstack2 3000. The full-duplex mode has been enabled and the Intelligent Flow Management (IFM) has been disabled on the switch. It is failing to negotiate in full duplex with any other device that has auto negotiate enabled. I double checked to make sure that the port has full duples enabled and still it does not work. The firmware on the switch is the latest version. Any suggestions?
I had a similar problem with a 3Com switch a few years back, but though it had been resolved in some firmware fix, but essentially we had servers in auto negotiate, and the 3Com switch was in auto negotiate, so came to the conclusion that they must both be hunting and neither was saying use this. So I manually set the server to full duplex, and sure as .... it worked. Maybe manually set it like we did and see if that fixes it. Else could be a bum switch or port. D

This is a common problem and as D suggests the solution is to manually set the port and the nic. I have dealt with this in HP, Nortel, and Asante switches also.
