Hi all.
I have quite the networking problem.

I'll tell you about the setup first.

I have a smaller network no more then 10 computers at a time and there all physical wired together with the use of a linksys router and a few hubs. But the internet that they all share is only cable that the linksys router splits. However 2 of the computers on the network have there own internet. One being ADSL and the other Wireless. This is because the ADSL computer runs a few servers such as a FTP server.

My problems are that the ADSL computer with the FTP site needs to beable to server out files from all/any computer on the network and I must say windows file sharing sucks. I have about 5 mapped drives on the computer that are shares on other computers on the network but they don't always seam to connect ok i have tryed a bunch of things and read forms all over and I have just desited that windows file sharing just messes up sometimes. If i reboot the computers it tends to fix the problem but I am not always phyiscal there to reboot these computers so my problem is does anyone know any better way to share files on windows 2000 ( I can't go linux because of some of the application i need to run)

I was thinking of having a ftp server on each computer and having them link together but I don't know of any ftp server that will let ya have virtual links to another FTP server.

Any ideas anyone

Is this a domain or workgroup? You are pushing the limits of a workgroup with 10 machines. And with three different connections to the Internet, administering your network must be a nightmare.

I'm assuming you're using windows name resolution through broadcasting. Two options: switch to DNS for name resolution, or make an lmhosts file containing host names and IP addresses for each file server on the network, and put this file on your FTP server.

Either way you go, all computers hosting file shares should have static IP addresses assigned instead of obtaining DHCP address leases.

THanks for the input I Really should turn off DHCP I don't know why I didn't think about that before and lmhost might work for windows file sharing.. I'll give it a shot..

THanks

Also i found out that raidenftpd can handle runing say 3 ftp sites with 3 different ip on one computer so maybe that might help out with the ftp site
