well iam a pctech and i can not figure out this problem ive got. maybe someone here can help =)
i have comp 1 running xp and comp 2 running 2k on a lan through a router. the 2k machine will not allow file share but will view xp machines files and will recieve them. i need to allow the 2k machine to file share back with the xp machine. ive tried to simply adding the file/print sharing protocol on the 2k machine but still does not allow access. i have also unistalled and reinstalled the network protocols on the 2k machine. any ideas - anyone?
my last resort would be to upgrade the 2k machine to xp (EMERGENCY ONLY)

assuming you don't have firewall running, what do you get if using net view \\w2kname?

Easy one to slove! For instance
XP box Login Administration
Password = Password2000 Bx Login = Administrator
Password = microsoftSince both Windows 2000 and XP are account specific, without a correct account, you will get an access denied. You will need to create an account on the 2000 box as well as the XP box, so NT security will allow to use shared resources. Windows 9.x did not have security, but 2000 & XP do.
This is a good thing, security is working correctly.
Try an easy experiment. login as administrator and take off passwords on both OS's. This should clean up the issue.
