Hi
I also know we need only 2 wires for DSL and phone. But if it is 4 wire cable, which 2 wires ? two center pair or any other config?
Thanks
Sarath

Phone connections are wired using the USOC wiring standard. The center pair is line 1, the next pair of pins is line 2.

See the USOC diagram in this link.

Thanks for the info. However my cable has only 4 wires. May be our ISP is using centre pair while the Router in-put is using outer pair. I will have to cut the cable and experiment with it. Any other suggestion?

cut the cable? I would use a volt meter and a pin to determine which is live and not.

Why are you having an issue? This is plug and play stuff.

Hi
No, the reason is, I need to connect my router to ADSL. But Router has 4 wire input where as DSL has 2 wires only. If I open the router for searching which 2 wires to connect, then the warranty expires. So I was trying to find out exact connection without opening the Router.

dsl modem output is to rj45 not rj11. You are making this too complicated. You connect a patch cable between the router and the modem. No cutting, no nothing. Like I said its plug and play.

Sounds like you don't have a dsl modem? Have you talked to your internet provider?

Yes I have a modem. But in this, the out put is USB. I am directly connecting it to the PC right now for accessing Internet. Whole of these problems came up when I wanted to connect to Wireless router. This modem is ZTE ZXDSL 852.

You can't bypass the modem.

All of the dsl modems I have worked with had both rj45 as well as usb outputs but then I am west coast usa.

You either need to purhase a router with a usb wan interface or a dsl modem/wireless router combo that allows you to plug the dsl line directly to the modem/router.
