Hi
Sorry, I know this kind of thing gets asked all the time, but I've run out of ideas!
My 2 PC (peer to peer) network stopped working a few weeks ago. Both machines can see themselves in Network Neighbourhood but not each other.
The same protocols are installed on both. I've experimented with the IP number settings. One has Win2000 and I've tried installing both 98 and 2000 on the other. "ipconfig /renew" used to sometimes solve the problem, but now it just says "DHCP server unreachable", even though I don't want to use DHCP cos it's peer to peer.
The cable must be working, because when one computer is turned off, the other thinks the LAN cable has been "unplugged", but there is no ping, and no packets ever recieved.
I've worked through Knowledge Base Q192534, but no joy. Any ideas will, of course, be most gratefully appreciated!
Thanks, Herb.

I would not know what to tell you Herb. That TID "Knowledge Base Q192534" covers just about every scenario that you could think of. Sometimes it is better to just un-install everything dealing with P2P and start over. Then find a good set of step by step instructions and re-install. At some point in time you reach a point where you have spent more time in trying to find the needle in the haystack, than it would have taken you to start from scratch. I wish I could be of more help, but like I said that document looked pretty thorough in it's troubleshooting. Best of Luck.

whenever a "DHCP server unreachable" is shown
an "IPCONFIG /all" shows an IP address of 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (the x's are just random numbers)(assuming you are not using a DHCP server)
(I remember you mentioned Peer-to-Peer)go into control panel, network connections & right clicking on the Local area connection icon & select properties...double click on TCP/IP (assuming this is the protocol your are using) Enter a static(one that you can manually enter) IP address...
this should fix your issues..
