Hello,

I have a setup at work on one of our manuf lines where there is a 3com wired nic that communicates with the assembly line, and a cisco wireless nic that connects to the network. Both have very different ip addresses statically set. At first boot, everything works fine, but after a random amount of time (1-8 hours approx) I will lose the connection to the network. I can't ping to it or from it. The wireless nic still says it has a connection, but its like the pc is trying to use the wired nic to access the network. Is there a way to specify that for our spc software it should use the wired nic, and for network access it should use the wireless. Maybe I am way off, so any help would be appreciated.

Wesley

wireless in a manufacturing area? Power tools, conveyer belts, electrical equipment, motors present? How many feet direct line of sight is the nic from the cisco?

When the cisco goes out can you still access the assembly line with the other nic?

I am wondering if you aren't having some radio wave interferance from the environment or even between the two cards.

I would look at the two cards specs and see if perhaps their frequency ranges can be adjusted so they don't step on each other. I would run with just the failed connection card for a day and see if the issue goes away. I would look at the cisco wireless router and see if there are any errors/messages explaining or noting the outages.

I would wonder about the connection also, but I have several other machines running wireless out there with no issue. Also, anytime I reboot, the connection is fine.

The line may be down for maintenance the end of this week, so I think I will try disabling the wired nic just to see if the same thing happens. I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks for your response... Wesley
