I need some help. Should be simple, but I have a brain cramp.
I have a Asus A7N8X with the dual lan ports.
What I want to happen is one port to take the connection from the broadband modem and obtain a public IP address This is for my work VPN. Then on the second LAN port, I would like that to go to my Linksys Router and supply the internet to the internal network.
Can this be done, and if so, how.
If this cannot be accomplished, what is the dual port use for..

dual ports are usually for adapter teaming to increase thruput to/from a switch and/or failover.
What you describe should be doable. Though why you would want to use your XP pro box as a router when you have a linksys router doesn't make sense to me. Don't confuse logical connections with physical connections. You can have one physical connection like broadband to your router with your wkst plugged into a switch off the router with multiple logical connections. You could do vpn and internet at the same time only using one eth port on the wkstation. You would configure tcp/ip on one port to do dhcp from the broadband and the other with static or dhcp to/from the router. You would have to enable packet forwarding between the two ports and you then have a xP pro router.
