I have a Actiontec GT704 DSL modem and 2 Linksys routers Both flashed with Thibor. I have 3 computers and want to have certain computer with maxed firewall protection and the others with functional firewall settings.
One router set up to use with functional computer and the other for the more secure type internet activity and computer.
I hope to plug both routers into the modem.
Routers are WRTSL54GS and a WRT54GL

Basically I want different router firewall settings so I can choose to connect computers to either depending the level of security I want. Ideally we would also have a set up where there is 2 wireless ssid and keys, 1 from each of the 2 routers. An Actiontec person over the phone mentioned double mac-ing? I do not want computers to interact or share files at all. I follow instructions really well.

"I hope to plug both routers into the modem"

that isn't going to happen unless you have two ip addresses from your ISP and your modem has two ports/you connect a switch between the modem and routers. This also usually requires an extra monthly charge or you pay for a block of static ips.

Your plan is a bit overkill for a home system.

IMHO you would be advised to have one firewall and on the "secure" pc use a software firewall to monitor outgoing traffic.

Understand that a firewall does not protect you from spyware or virus's unless you pay for those packeages [don't believe your firewall supports that type of service like a sonicwall firewall does]. Nor does it compensate for bad internet habits [example clicking ok on popups or going to questionable sites].

The GT704 is a networking modem with 4 ports.
One computer connects wirelessly from the leasing office. My "secure" computer is used for the same thing every day, less risk. The office computer needs to do more surfing to look for parts and investigate applications. Also I lend my network to people with laptops and would like to be sharing a more functional connection with-out letting my "securely" connected computer more open to the junk.

Do you get multiple ips from the modem/isp?

Really comes back to you don't need additional routers, just engage your software firewall on the "secure" pc and you are fine.

Note: none of your routers have AV/Spyware/Spam subscriptions. They don't do deep packet inspection. You can still get virus's and spyware.

I think it comes down to what you think "secure" means. And secure against what. Going to known good sites is part of safe computing and reduces your chances of infection.

No, I only have one IP address from the ISP.
With Java, active-x, and cookies blocked it makes for a better browsing experience. No flashing banners and much less hard disk activity and it makes browsing even seem quicker from page to page, log-on to log-on. I like the browsing I can do when I don't have flashing banners and the busy hard drive going like crazy, much more!!
I just want to create the more functional connection for other commuters.

Both the routers I'm using have mac address cloning and gatway mode thanks to Thibors WRT firmware. Even so I still can't do what I'm feeling is possible.
