I have a computer that connects to a printer through an ethernet port. I wanted to connect another computer to the printer the same way. So, I bought a netgear switch with 5 ports and plugged the printer and each computer in to it using ethernet cables. I set up a network on each computer. The first computer will still print to the printer. The second computer will not print (yes the driver is installed). The network shows "limited or no connectivity" even though it is plugged directly into the port and I'm using the same kind of cable as on the other computer. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What does ipconfig show on the problem computer?

In fact, to add to what Jennifer asked....show us the ipconfig on both so we can compare.
Off the top of my head I can tell you this much, all 3 devices need to be configured within the same subnet in order to communicate.
example:
PC 1:
IP: 192.168.0.1
SM: 255.255.255.0PC 2:
IP: 192.168.0.2
SM: 255.255.255.0Printer:
IP: 192.168.0.3
SM: 255.255.255.0If you're not connecting your LAN to the internet through a SOHO router (or any other gateway device) then a Default Gateway address is not needed. Nor is DNS IP required.
The above is a very basic LAN setup and will work.
You can test by opening a command prompt on either PC and pinging the other two devices to ensure connectivity.

Thank you for the direction. These computers are in a church office so I will need to go back up there to check the configurations - which should be later today. This is my first attempt at "networking" and I appreciate the help. There is no internet service on these computers.
