Im trying to connect a server that is only 10 Mbps to a dual speed hub and from another network or even from my router ping that server and i cant. The port on the router that the same dual speed hub is plugged into is 100 Mbps fastethernet. If i plug my laptop into a 10 Mbps hub and my server in the same hub i can ping it directly. Seems like the problem is when going from 100 to 10. The only other thing is when i plug my laptop in the dual speed hub and the router in i cannot ping the router interface and im on the same network and subnet IP wise. Any ideas what my problem is. Do i need a catalyst instead of a regular hub? Any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a hub problem. It sounds like a router config problem. Changing speed isn't going to cause the kind of problem your having, a misconfigured router will. The only way to solve your problem is you'll have to describe the network addressing you have in the server, the router, and the remote network.

Not to change the subject but what is a catalyst? Is that some new hardware I haven't heard of?

No, Cisco bought the company Catalyst a long time ago and kept the name. So whenever someone is talking about a Catalyst they are talking about the Cisco model line of switches. It been around a long time.

Problem solved. I got rid of the netgear hub and replaced it with a Catalyst hub and everything is working fine. No router config problems. Dont ask me why but that fixed it.
