Just recently we installed a couple of computers with Windows XP Pro. They are fully patched and running a fully-patched 4.83 SP1 Novell Client. All of them has been attempting to logon to the network via the SYSTEM user account on that PC during an active connection, under a different username.. The Novell Client login screen comes up with the "System" account in the username wanting a password. We have just been hitting cancel and I was wondering what could be causing that to happen? A quick sweep of processes doesn't show anything out of the ordinary (at least nothing owned by SYSTEM that would need to login). Any clues?

Yes, There is a solution to this issue.
The Help and Support Service was shut down and disabled.Go to Control Panel>Administrative Services>Services
Find Help and Support and double click. This will bring you to the Properties for the Help and Support Service. Under the General Tab click the down arrow next to the "Startup Type" and select "Disabled".
Select the "Stop" button to shut down the service.
Select the "Log On" tab and highlight "Profile1" or whatever the name of your custom profile is under Hardware Profile and click the disable button. Next go to the "Recovery" Tab and change First Failure and Second Failure to "Take No Action". This should totally eliminate the Help and Support Service from running and along with it, your inconvenient "System" user login prompt.I have not had a problem with any of my XP machines since doing this.

Scott..
Did this solution fix your problems? We are experiencing the same thing and have been unsuccessful with every thing we try. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how things worked out for you..
Thank you and take care
