Ok. I have a 4.1 Netware server installed. On the XP pro client machine, you can login to the server, except when you login to netware, you also login as the administrator to Windows. On Windows 95/98, each user got their own desktop, but now it's only the same administrator desktop. You mentioned ZenWorks. How will that work for Windows XP pro so that every user that logs into Netware gets their own unique desktop? Could anyone please tell me the step-by-step process I need to do this for? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!!

Hi Ken,
This is the issue: Windows' security is conflicting with Novell's.
In the '9x/ME world, a user would primarily logon to NetWare and their system would then maintain or use the given "established" profile.
In the 2K/XP world, Windows provides te profile, and its up to the server to establish a profile.
A Fix:50 machines loging onto a NetWare server as administrator is almost as crazy as 50 users loging onto 50 XP machines as administrator.
Each user should have a personal account on an XP machine, and that account should coincide with thier Novell username. The problem goes away at this point. If the need exists for all the users to also administrate their machines, its simple to make the new users as administrator status.
This can be done through the client's control panel under the user or account section.
What you might observe is that in the '9x/ME world, users could bounce from machine to machine willy-nilly, and could logon as whomever to the server. This would fulfill the requirements of the server, and the workstation. In the 2K/XP world, Microsoft's solution is to only allow universal user DB through a .NET solution. This allows for any user to use any machine. However, as its all funneled through Microsoft, the questions exists "What would the .NET servers at MS want with everyones IP, Username, and Password?"

Hi, thank you very much for the help!! I actually got that fixed right before you posted. I have 4 accounts on XP, and on NWADMIN.exe, I created the name username's and when I logged into Netware, it asked if we'd like to change the WIndows password to match the Netware, so I did, and it works. I have one last question. Could someone please tell me the key points of migrating Netware 4.1 to Netware 5. I know right now, the time on my server is at 1988, but read Netware 5 doesn't have that problem. Could someone please tell me some key points Netware 5 has that Netware 4.1 doesn't have? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!!

there is another way.
Make users a memebers of a groups ie administrators and other and use netware polices to set up there machine/os profiles assign user rights as they login
