I did a clean install on Win2k on a pc today. Then I installed client v.4.81, rebooted, and saw that the Workstation Only box was checked. I unchecked it, logged in Ok, rebooted, Workstation Only box was check on again! The network consists of one NetWare 5 server, and win9x clients. I've done over a hundred Novell client installs and this is the first time I'm seeing this box checked ON by default. Anyone have any ideas.

Hey Pete,
You can look in the Client Configuration to see if this is set as default. I listed a URL below that lets you download the file nccutil5.exe used for troubleshooting Client problems, in case you didn't have it. I know that this is a registry setting, but can not remember where it's located, HKLM or HKCU. That site also has other downloads for the 4.81 Client, updates I beleive.

Did you have to Back Rev to NW Client 4.81 because of other problems? If not I would suggest that you try NW Client 4.83SP1 and see if your problem goes away. I know we pushed the latest NW Client (4.83SP1) over a year ago just because of crazy problems we were having with the 4.81 Client. Good Luck!

Underdog, thanks for the info.
The Client Config doesn't have anything for Workstation on/off default, although it does have the option of having Workstation Only apear on the login screen. I will download and install the latest client form Novell and try that. I've been really lucky with 4.81 and 4.11 servers. This time I was on a Netware 5 server. Thanks again!

Just for anyone's FYI:

I uninstalled client 4.81 and installed client 4.83sp3, and the same problem occured: workstation only box was checked by default. I figured I'd update win2k to sp3 (using a cd I burned the night before), and guess what:

BAMM!

Almost entirely through the process, a pop up box asked for the CD with the file something.dll. It was on the CD, but it couldn't be read. I had to click Cancel, and when I rebooted, it was all over. Had to completely reinstall win2k. This time around no workstation only box was boxed.

Morals of the story:
Invest in a good burner.
Never buy cd's on promotion.
Always figure a 1 hour job will take 2.5 hrs.
