Comment: I am a computer technician for my school and we just got in some new dells. We are using the client for Windows XP,version 4.9(the newest). I took a look on these boards and also on the Novell website, but I could not find the directions on how to remove the windows login from poping up after we log into Novell. This is quite a problem, escpecialy with students checking the box that changes the windows password to match there novell password. The only info I could find was using controll userpasswords2 and making sure that the box that says users must use passwords is not checked, which it is not, and editing some registry keys, which I did, and neither seems to work. I know that I edited the right registry keys, but I am at an end here. Right now we are using a system were we have no users and have the students log in as guests, wich bypasses the password but as soon as they log off the password box comes up again. Any help is apreciated!

Reply: (edit)The solution you seek is designed to cope with the situation you describe. You need to research ZenWorks and Dynamic Local User (or DLU for short). You set a user policy and when the user logs in to the XP workstation, a temporary local account is created. You can determine a number of things about that account and login. For example, it may use the netware credentials or not. It may make the temporary account volatile so that it disappears when the user logs out, or it can control an existing local account. Most other solutions I have seen are based on creating a generic local account. Mostly, these are less satisfactory and tend to compromise security or profile information. GT

Reply: (edit)Well, as it turns out we were using Zenworks, but the version we have either doesnt suport windows XP or we cant get it to work with XP and our school has frozen the budget on the computer department here so we cant purchase a new version. We found a workaround for it though so it is ok. But now we have a new problem. The users drives are not being mapped for some reason. We are suposed to have drive F:\ mapped to their own area and X, Y, and Z to other areas on the network. We are using a login script that works on 2k, 98 and 95 machines but wont work in XP. Know anything about this one?
