The situation:
A USB Scanner is connected locally to a Windows 98se workstation with Novell Client 3.32. The scanner gets detected and installs just fine. I setup a Simple App. in ZenWorks for the scanning software, because Staff members and students will use it. (Simple Apps. in ZenWorks are just basically shortcut icons in the App. Launcher that point to a program installed locally.) The scanner will work fine for me, and I am in the Novell Admin group. But it will not work for Staff or Student members. I have made sure to associate the application with Staff and Students in the Application Details of the scanning software in Zenworks. Staff and Students will open the scanning software, but when they click on scan, it says: "you do not have permission."
Another USB scanner (different HP model) only works for Novell Admins also. When a Staff and Student goes to scan, it says: "sorry, could not initialize scanner."Comment:
I have scanners on campus that work successfully for staff and students, but they are connected through parallel cables. The scanners I am having problems with only have USB connections.
Plus I have several USB printers working successfully for Staff and Student members.PLEASE let me know of any policy or Novell Issues with USB devices and PLEASE be specific. I am about 4 months new to Novell administration.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi,
lol, just new to novell... Welcome to group !!
ok ... let's go. Do you use roaming profiles ?
sometimes some registry entries are in the user hive. If you installed the printer as admin, you got the entries. The users don't have them.If not, are you using policies ? Than it has something to do with registry rights.....
Most common is the "don't save settings" and other policies, mostly coming from ZAK (Zero administration Kit)Greets,
