I am running a server that has Netware 4.11 installed on a 4 gig HD. I am looking at purchasing a new server with an 18 gig HD with Netware 5.1 installed. My question is do I need to setup the volume? Can I just use one volume for the entire drive, or should I setup different volumes for the OS, application software (such as the backup software)? Also, what is the easiest way to transfer data from the two drives? Should I use one of the workstations, and use the "migrate" to transfer the data to spaecified folders on the server? Basically, how would you get the data from a HD the is 4 gig to a new HD that is 18 gig, and how do you setup volumes on a Netware OS?

As with any Operating System, it is preferable to separate the Operating System specific files from end user data files and applications for management and disaster recovery purposes.

At the very least use the SYS volume only to store Operating System executibles and Operating System related third party software.
Use one or more additional volumes to store the rest of the files on that server.
