Currently run NT4 workstations on Novell 4.11
Network.
I run through all the necessary procedure to set up printer on workstation but when I try to load nptwin95.exe the following message occurs
"Unable to get list of available hardware ports from the windows 95 Registry"
How can I activate my printers on the workstations or get around this problem?

The procedure to set up is as follows:
After creating necessary print server, queue and printer objects and assignments.
1 Ensure connection to workstation
2 Create Printer object as Manual Load
3 Activate Print Server
4 Execute Nptwin95.exe in Public\WIN95 Directory
At this point I get the error message.
Nprinter does not activate.
I have tried activating Nprinter manually but it is unable to complete and save the changes.

Yes I execute NPTWIN95.exe on the NT4 workstation.
As I understand this looks at the registry on the machine and I have noted that win95 and win98 machines the registry appears different to NT4.

Well, yes they're totally different os's. You can't use nptwin95 on an NT workstation. Do you want the printer set up as a network printer or is it just for that 1 workstation?
If the PServer supports LPR printing then you could just print to it direct using IP. Just add the Microsoft TCP/IP printing service on the workstation then set up the printer as an LPD port using the IP address.
What type of print server is it?

The printer is to be setup as a network printer. It is attached to a workstation but I would like the other Workstations in the department to be able to print to the printer.
I couldn't tell you if PServer supports LPR.
The network at the moment is an old 4mbit/ps
Token ring network and I only use IPX/SPX
Protocol.
The Print Server is one set up in the NDS.Thanks for the feedback its much appreciated.

Does the printer have its own dedicated print server (such as a Jet direct card) or are you going to use PServer on the Novell Server?

The printer does not have its own dedicated print server.
I am using Pserver on the Novell Server.

I did try capture and this did not work.
I may have come up with a solution however.
The novell website has a download NTPrint.exe which integrates as an add on to Novell Client. Apparently later clients support this.
After creating diskette from self extracing file. Installs necessary Network Print service for NT in client32.
Ntprinter icon is created in Control Panel from where you can configure printer by browsing NDS tree.
This also will update NDS when changes are made.
Thanks again for feedback.

When i run Nprinter NT on my NT workstations i get an error when i try to select the que that i want the printer to use. It tells me that PUBLIC needs exclusive read rights to the print server. We've gave the user's public directory various rights(i didnt think it would work) and then we added the individual user to the print server user list, even though their context is listed as a user (this worked before we brought NT in). What more do i have to change?
