I have a test pc running NT4 sp6a. It has a Novell client installed (4.81). For the most part, I usually log in as "Workstation Only" as the local system Administrator. If I need to login to the network I'll uncheck the "Workstation Only" and enter my Novell user name "Pete" and all is good. I've noticed that if I'm logged in as "Workstation Only" and have a scheduled task set to run, my test pc will bring up the Novell login screen before running the task. I don't know why it wants me to login to the network, I'm simply telling it to load Netscape, nothing on the network (netscape is installed completely local connecting to web proxy via tcp/ip, it's unrelated). If I cancel the login screen, the task does not run. If I enter password and click OK the task runs. same password for NT as for Novell. It's got me completely stumpted.
I downloaded Filemon.exe from sysinternals.com and noticed a call to my default network printer every time Netscape tried loading. I created another bogus local printer, set it to default, and now no more pop up login screen.
