Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the purpose is of the following directories on the SYS volume of a Netware 4.11.
1) Public
2) System
3) Login
4) Mail
5) ETCCheers -Craig.

Hi Craig
In the ETC directory the config files for the server are stored.
In system also the configuration files like NAT.NLM
And the other directory i'm not sure about but u should not remove them. Removing any thing that u dont know for sure what it is can cause the server to not reboot. Look at www.novell.com for related topic. U can find moste answer there. Just hit the search button.Try this link:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nsbs5/docui/index.html#../insadenu/data/hbwwof68.html
It explains NetWare file Structure i think it might help.
Hope something of this help.

HI Craig:
All the directories you listed are Novell System Directories. The description is as follows:
1) Public
All the files (programs) available for all the users, You will find the most important tools there (recommendation: If you don't know what a program does, don't activate it)
2) System
System files and program for use of the administrator only3) Login
The most common initial programs like Login, Logout, Systime, etc. Most of them are accesible when the user just attaches to the server before he logs in4) Mail
The user directory for mail (if you have any mail system) and other text utilities like user login scripts etc. (The login script is a batch file that is executed at the beginning of the session just like a DOS's .bat file)
