Please help our firm is running a Netware 4.11b server along with two other application servers, however an engineer came out the other day to replace some hardware, but also commented that the sys volume was 95% full. He said he did not know exactly when our files were purged every so often. Can someone please advise me how long it will take for 5% to fill up. I know there has not been any warnings about running out of disk space coming up yet and what will the consequences be when the disk drive is full?
Thank you.

It would not be easy to suggest cleanup without looking at the volume. Its a judgement call and it will be yours. You may have applications which write to the volumes and their data is increasing in size. Again its your call. SYS: is the most important of all volumes so if you do not have the expertise then get a consultant for few hours and work with him/her.
As far a purge is concerned, well netware takes care of it in the sense if the space is required then it will purge files in the order they were deleted.

You should find out how much space is left. If you need more room try purging all deleted files by running filer

I would recommend looking for any old extracted service packs or patches that are probably taking up some space. Generally, the higher the patch number the larger the file and if you have been running a same version for a few months with no problems, then I would recommend getting rid of the directory. I would also see if there are any folders or directories that users have access to and are putting stuff into. It's very hard to predict how long it will take for the sys: volume to fill up not know if you have any applications, like GroupWise installed which cache mail or things of that sort.
How big is your sys: volume?
How many users does your tree holdm including containers, which will determine the size of NDS.Good Luck and please feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any problems.
