I have a customer getting an intermittent error while printing from a Win2k Pro PC to a savin 2070 printer on a novell 4.11 server.
the error they get is;
String 16385 not found.
The handle is invalid.Anyone seen this before?

I too have been receiving this error when attempting to print to a networked Gestetner Savin 2070. The system in question is also a Win2k machine and we are running a mixed Netware 4.11/WinNT network. I configured the enduser to go through our NT print server instead of the Netware print server and still, same error. I've tried contacting Gestetner on this issue, hoping for a response soon, but not keeping my fingers crossed as my past experience with them has been less than fulfilling as far as customer service has gone. Any luck in resolving this?

I've seen the same error when trying to print to a Ricoh Aficio 700 from MS Word on Windows 2000 machine. Where do I look for answers????

I've been experienceing this problem for the last 3 months, I first experienced this with Windows 2000 trying to print to Xerox printer, now my department has moved to Windows XP same problem.
String 16385 not found.
Unexpected error has occurred.Windows 95 people DO NOT experience this problem. We all use Novell 5.0.
I written to Ray the orginal person at the top. He still hasn't found out the answer.

Well, I've finally gotten a response from the contractual technicians that Gestetner hires to work on my company's copiers. Sounds like they have no clue either, though they will be contacting Gestetner directly to see if they've got any clue what is causing this error. If I do get an answer from them, I'll be sure to post it here.

Alrighty, Got a response from the technicians for Gestetner today. They inform me that not only is there an issue with the PS driver they have available at their site, but apparently there is a know (yet unpublished) issue with the PCL6 driver, which is the particular driver we've been using at my company. As per their recommendation, I scrolled back the workstation in question to the PCL5e driver that is available at www.gestetnerusa.com. So far, it looks like we're back up and running, I've successfully sent multiple print jobs to the Savin 2070, and have not received one String error since. Hope this works as well for the rest of you :)

I have the same problem printing to a Sharp AR-507 in a a Novell Netware 5.1 network, I was told by Sharp to use the latest novell client of 4.81a, but that did solve the problems. I am now using the ps driver and that seems to be working.

I too had same problem with AR-507, Netware5 on Win2k & XP pro. I have client 4.83. Error only occured with MS Office products. I also solved the problem using the PS driver.

Same problem with Infotec 4551 MF with PCL5 or PCL6 driver.
With PS driver, you can print but for 1 page you get 30 pages of various signs !Any solutions ?

I work for Sharp electronics and on the AR-507 if you turn off the Eurocharacter support in the driver this problem seems to stop happening with all Sharp drivers and the Client installed. Sharp is still investigating this problem but for now turning off the eurocharacter seems to be a good workaround. Perhaps this would also work for other manufactures as well?

If you go into "Printing Properties", "Printing Preferences". Then "Advanced" there is a check box called "Euro Character Support" uncheck this box and apply.

I had the string error 16385 on an Infotech 4270 MF using PCL6, Solution was NOT to use the "Fit to Print Size" under Paper settings.
Might work on other models from Infotech or Ricoh.

We have experienced this on a NT4 network with a Xerox 440. The workarounds/solutions mentioned above doesn't work. It is only with one user. User had Win2K. If somebody knows a handy tip....
