We have about 100-150 computers that have Win 9x, We use Novell as our Network client for file sharing and Windows workgroup for Print sharing. We have a few print ques set up on the Novell client also. We added 2 new Xp labs with about 50 XP machines and it seems since that the network is running slow, If we go to add printers on the 9x machines when we go to browse for the printer it either takes forever or doen't respond. Same if we just want to browse the network neighborhood it takes forever. But if we go back later it is fine, sorta like a roaving problem. We had a network test done and everything checked out good. And we have all the latest service packs.Don't know where to look for problems. It should take a minute to add a network printer and unless we type the the printer location manually instead of browsing it takes forever.

Are you running File and Printer Sharing on a network with 200 PCs? If you are, that is crazy!!!

The overhead that each PC is causing on the network traffic is incredible! File and Print Sharing was designed to run on a 10 to 20 PC network.

You have to understand that each PC is broadcasting to your entire subnet that it has files or printers for any system out there that can possibily see it.

Turn off File and Print sharing and go buy some HP JetDirect cards and increase the speed of your network by a 1000 times or so.

We don't have the file sharing on just the print sharing, would that still be bogging down the network. Also we had people come in and test the network and they said that evrything checked out fine but that is what is so frustrating because when you go to add a printer it takes forever to browse for the printer.
