We are upgrading the harddrives in our Novell 4.11 Server. This server has been in place for a couple of years, if that make a differences. Can someone please tell what I need to change in Novell after the harddrives are in place? Any response would be greatly appreciated!

Your best and easiest option is to buy a copy of Powerquest "Server Magic" and no, I don't work for the company!

Yep,
Server Magic works good. Ghost for Netware is supposed to be pretty good stuff also.

There is a way to upgrade your drives without buying addtitional software but if you've haven't really worked with Netware before I wouldn't recommend it.

I used the Server Image portion of Server Magic to image the original partitions and when I restored them I was asked if I wanted to resize them (bigger). Once the partition size was increased I went into NW and increased the size of the volumes that were on that partition. Server Image works in DOS like Norton Ghost but it can do NW partitions. I did all this without installing Server Magic on the NW server. I was running Server Image off of a diskette. They were not licensed for the product so I could not install it on the server. In the end I didn't need to.

I've never used Ghost for NW but I hear it's better for doing migrations than Server Magic. Whatever.

Then there's always SnapBack. http://www.cdp.com/
It's a server image to tape product that allows you to backup your server to a tape by just booting up with their disaster recovery diskette. Then all you do is install your new drives, boot up with their diskette and restore. Supposedly, it also has the ability to resize partitions also. I've never used it before so that's all I can tell you. I downloaded it but I haven't had a chance to monkey around with it.

Take your time and test whatever method you decide on before you guts it. You're lucky since the original harddrives will never be touched. You can always just plug them back in if the migration goes bonkers.

Good Luck,
RT.
