We are using Novell Netware 3.12 version. Normally any file we use in LAN, whenever we save it Novell automatically creates a backup. If the original file is corrupted / deleted, we will restore ti from Novell by using SALVAGE command from Supervisor.
But this backup of files takes place only for the current month & the oprevious month. Supposing if I want to recover files of June / July, those backups r not there.
Is there any way to restore files of June / July? Does Novell store backups of files of older month(files before august).
Pls help.

Salvage function will keep files until you start running out of space on the volume. In that case Netware will delete files in the order they were deleted. If you need to restore files then salvage may not be the answer for this, invest some Rupees in backup drive and software.

"Normally any file we use in LAN, whenever we save it Novell automatically creates a backup. If the original file is corrupted / deleted, we will restore ti from Novell by using SALVAGE command from Supervisor. "
This is a untrue statement and reveals a complete misunderstanding of what Salvage is all about.
Salvage only retains DELETED FILES. It does not create "backups". That's what backup programs are for. It is true that once the salvage allocated space is filled that automaticly the oldest files are purged when newer files are deleted.
As noted invest is a tape backup solution or put a dvd burner in a workstation and weekly burn all the data to the dvd.

IMHO..You are referring to the TTS, transaction tracking system. Novell says;
"If the server crashes in the middle of a transaction, then information contained in this file reconstructs the state and information in the protected file and restores it to pre-transaction condition".
