Hi
I wonder if anyone here can help. We've got 125 site offices spread out over the UK, each with a Netware 6 server. All of these offices have WAN links allowing the servers to connect to each other via IP. These servers are all in the same NDS tree....
The problem I have is regarding renaming the servers. In Novell Support Connection is explains that every server / WAN link must be up before renaming the server in the AUTOEXEC.NCF. I've had to rename some of our site servers. On the first two offices where I had to rename the server, the entire network was up and I had no problems. However yesterday I went on site and an office link was down - and DSREPAIR / Time Sync was reporting -626 errors as a result. To play it safe I decided not to rename this server at this point. I was just wondering if I can still rename the server with this error or not. In this case it wasn't too bad as the office in question was not too far away. However, worse case scenario would be if I had to travel quite far and on the day of renaming the server, an office link went down. My day would be wasted.
Look forward to your replies - cheers!Jogs

Renaming NW6 Servers dont forget the SYS:ETC/Host and SYS:ETC/Hostname files, any DNS entries and finally in imanager/apache conf files may need to be revised. Aside from this you should be able to make the change as long as you expect minimal down time, in otherwords you expect the line to comeback. Make a list of all severs which have a replica or subord ref to the server and run a set dstrace = *h on them the moment the line is back up.
Network with your children.
