Hi there. I would like to know how I can remove (uninstall) Novell Netware 5.1 server entirely. I dont remember if the CD gives that option or not. I thought I would try here & seek some advice before I screw things up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you :)

Backup your data and FDISK the server drive . . . .

If you want to remove a server entirely, and you don't care 'bout the consequences, just pull the plug and find a use for the old hardware.

If you want to remove a server and need to save the data, Rob is right - back up the data somehow, either to CD through a workstation or possibly to some sort of tape, and then find a use for the old hardware.

If this is the only Server in the Network you can just pull the plug as Jaxor stated. If it is not the only Server in the network then there a few more steps that need to be done.

Thank you Underdog, must be my Scottish aggression to get rid of things entirely and quickly. If you want to properly remove a single server from the tree, here is the Novell TID related:

Ok, lol...maybe I needed to be a little more specific. I have Netware on my lap top which also has Win98 running on it (dual boot). I just need to get rid of it because I dont need it anymore. I dont need to back it up or anything either. I just need to make space on my hard drive. I also have partition magic. Maybe that would help?

Ding, ding, ding! We have a good answer! Thank you, NetAdmin32 for the extra info -

1) use partition magic to wipe out the netware partition and if you want, extend the Windows 98 partition to grab up that extra space.

2) lather, rinse, repeat.

Good catch Jax! It's amazing what you can do when you have all the pieces of the puzzle.

How did we go from removing a Novell 5.1 server to simply freeing up HDD space on a dual boot Win 98 laptop? Since when does having Netware client make for a dual boot pc/laptop? Am I missing something here?

It's Novell (Netware 5.1 server) Not the client. PM still wont let me merge or redistribute free space because I dont have any unallocated space adjacent to my C:\Win98.

What size drive is it? What type of PC is this? Using FDisk what partitions do you have on the drive? What other options is PM leaving you with?

It's an IBM thinkpad laptop. I havent tried FDISKing it yet. I have C:\win98 partition, D:\(folder-drive)-NOT bootable, and Netware partition. Every time I try to resize or move partitions it tells me that I cannot do it. I know I need to have unallocated space adjacent to the win98 drive. Right or wrong?

I have no explanation for this message in PM. As Rob already suggested above, run FDisk on the drive. That should allow you to wipe the Netware partition off the drive. Once FDisk is complete you can try running PM again and see if it will let you work with the remaining drive space. You shouldn't have any problems thereafter because in reality all you have left is the Win98 FAT(32) partition and a logical D drive which is common. Worse case scenario....FDisk the entire drive, backing up first if needed, and reinstall Win98. Post back after running FDisk.

Here's what you do:

1) Learn how to spell.
2) Learn how to punctuate.
3) Learn how to use a spelling/grammar checker.
4) Include as much detail as possible when describing a problem you have so we are better able to help you.

Jaxor, OUCH!

Shahzad,

To boot from CD you need two things:
1) A bootable CD.
2) Change your bios to boot from the CD Rom drive instead of the FDD-fixed disk.

To run FDisk you need FDisk.exe on CD as well (since you don't have a floppy drive).

Your question should really go into a fresh post...it doesn't sound like a similar issue.

Good luck.

NetAdmin32....any success?

Sorry to be that harsh, but if I can learn to be reasonable coherent and use somewhat correct grammar and spelling in Enlish, everyone can - ESPECIALLY considering this is an English web site. If the person above does not speak English as a native language, qualifying the message with that would have brought no irk or ire from me. If they do speak English as a native language, shame on them for being so careless.

Well said my friend Jax!! I work in a school enviornment and the grammar that is used by the Teachers is horrendous. And it goes all the way up the educational ladder to Administrative personnel that have the "Dr." designation preceding their names. I can put up with bad spelling a lot more than I can bad grammar. My grammar is not the best, but it is a lot better than some of the people that get paid to teach such things. Well enough of this, I'm starting to bore myself, besides I need to make the soap box available to others.
