Hi,
does anyone know how to remove help from the start menu? I work at a school and the kids are using the help menu to access locked-down files, e.g display properties.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

in windows XP, u can click on start, then pointing anywhere in an empty space, just right click, u should see only properties. click on it.
Then u will see 2 tabs, one is taskbar & other is start menu, click on start menu & u will see start menu & classic menu. if start menu is highlighted, then u should be able to click on the customize button & after u click customize, another window will appear, which will also have 2 options. click on advanced & then in the start menu items, u will find "help & support" checked, just uncheck it & u won't see the help menu after that.. just close all the windows now by clicking OK or apply & OK..
I am making short story long as i am new with computers myself. but hope u get what I mean.
However it will be easy for kids to get the help menu back again using this same route.
u know kids. ;)Anyway, if u are using win 98, the process might be more or less the same.. I do not remember how I used to customize win 98's start menu anymore.

EdYou need to use Zen with workstation policies. Using this you can remove everything from the Start menu including "help"
Brian

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
Right-click an open area in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value
Name it NoSMHelp
Double-click this entry and give it a value 1
Create another DWORD Value called NoHelp and set it to 1 also.
Do the same as above for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Exit RegEdit and restart Windows
