Hello,
I have a lab that was running with BNC cabling but we recently changed over to cat5 the server also sits in this room and was also switched from bnc to cat5. Of course now the server can't see out or be seen. It is like the network card has gone bad or I need to reconfigure? it to look on the rj45 port instead. I'm not a Novell tech I am just trying to manage as much of this on my own as possible, we don't have a novell tech onsite and they are usually busy. He did tell me to edit the autoexec.ncf file where you would load the drivers? and where it has Media=BNC, he suggested deleting this line in the file. Another tech told me to use nwconfig? to change this by reinstalling the drivers for the card. We have about 20 computers in this lab running W95 and novell. The version of Novell is Not the newest but I don't think it is that old, maybe 4.11.
If you have any help to offer I would really appreciate it. I hope I am able to accomplish this task on my own. Thanks,
Renee

try deleting the media=bnc line, if the card has a setup program that you can run from dos, try that and see if you can set the default to tp/cat5 whatever.

Thanks
My only problem is that when I down the server and get to the dos prompt I'm having trouble finding the autoexec.ncf file? I don't know how to navigate to find it. I think once I'm there I should be okay. Your help is appreciated.

Hi there,
If it is a 3comm network card you have to check the card it's settings.
Bring down the server untill the c-prompt.
Use the 3x....cfg.exe file from 3com.
(3xcardtype, 3x9c..)
Check if utp is enabled. Put the setting on both choices.Power down the server.
Power up the server. If the server starts it sees the cable connected, and you can use either BNC or Utp.
Check also the workstations, as mentioned before for the server.
In Novell it is not necesarry to change settings.
I hope to have helped you.
Regards from The Netherlands and good luck.
Richard
