Subject: Printing in Win98/NW 3.12
Comment:

I'm currently networking 3 DOS workstations and 2 Win98 workstations (with NWClient 3.3) with a Novell 3.12 server. I'm running an accounting program directly off of the server on all the workstations. I have an HP laser printer attached to a DOS workstation and I've set it up to load rprinter in the autoexec and I've captured the port on all the other workstations.

1. Whenever I try to print from any workstation, the print job goes to the qeue but hangs there. It doesn't seem to go to the printer.

2. I added the capture command to the workstation connected to the printer but can only get blank pages, and still can't get anything else from the other workstations.

3. I added nprint95.exe to the Win98 workstations but still no luck. I get a message saying Out of Paper.

4. A recent problem that's just come up is that the "0" key in the number pad of the keyboard doesn't seem to work on the Win98 stations.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I would really like to hook up the laserprinter to the win98 machine and was wondering if it would be possible for me to set up the win98 machine to be a remote printer server? I'm a little foggy in this area. Do I set up polling? How do I do this?

Thanks in advance.

Win98 workstations & nprinter don't work together until you make a registry edit fix. It's an upper/lower case issue.

Check out documnet no. 10007941
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/search.pl?database_name=kb&type=HTML&docid=%03%21F180293%3a971789677%3a%20%28%2010007941%20%29%20%20%07%01%00&byte_count=7047

See if that doesn't fix the problem. It did on the 2 new Win98 workstations I recently set up with nprinter.

Susan, thank you very much! I owe you a big one. Problems solved and everythings printing. I also forgot unload and reload my changed pconsole nlm files which took care of my DOS workstations and your suggestion solved my Win98 problems. I tried searching novell but I guess I overlooked that doc.

Now, just one last question is, is it possible to connect the printer directly to a Win98 station and have that station run as a print server?

Yes, sure can... that's what nprinter will do for you. With it running on the workstation where the printer is attached anyone on the network that has it set up under their printers can send jobs to it.

I'm currently networking 13 workstations and connect to a NTserver 4. I have an HP laser printer attached to a workstation and share it to otrher stations . I have a print server(win 98) with 12 workstations(win 2000).
Whenever I try to print from any workstation, the print job goes to the qeue but hangs there. It doesn't seem to go to the printer . Some times printer icon disapeared in print folder and apear error message: Spool32 caused an invalid page fault in module...

How do I do it?
Thanks for your helping.
